Happy Monday! We hope you enjoyed the last part of Star Crossed!

Questions for Week Four:
In the 'Cusp' sections of Star-Crossed, characters make big decisions based on their horoscopes. Which of these decisions, do you think, is the most significant?

With which of the 'Cusp' characters did you feel the most affinity? What was it about their story that appealed to you?

Now that you know how Star-Crossed ends, do you think the book has a 'message' about whether or not there is such a thing as 'destiny'?

Thank you for reading with us, we hope you have enjoyed it!

They all made decisions that were really big for them (or their posterity), but Zadie's decision to keep her baby was probably the most life-altering as becoming a parent affects all aspects of your life. I also like that she ended up with Simon, which I somehow didn't at all see coming. I was sad for his former fiance, though. She's the only one that didn't get a happy ending (besides Leo's children).

I think I felt an affinity for Fern the most. She is such a likeable character and so driven--sometimes to the point of letting her to do list take over and keep her from really living (something I tend to do sometimes, too).

There was definitely a destiny message in the book. All Justine's meddling affected so many other people's lives which all together helped bring Nick around to where she had been trying to lead him with her altered horoscopes.

As a random aside: As soon as Nick saw Brown Houdini Malarkey get hit, I knew Justine and Nick were going to end up with him, and I love that they did! The 3 of them seem like a great fit, and I love their quirky little family.

Did everyone see the zodiac-based book recommendations at the back of the book? Her recommendation for Leo was actually the one I was most interested in reading--non-fiction narratives are my favorite. 4 of the signs were ones I have already read, and another one is a favorite of my husband's that he's told me about.

I had a hard copy from the library and I couldn't find any book recommendation in the back. Bummer :( But Melissa did have some on this website so I'll check those out!!

I was reading a hard copy from the library, too, and it is in the back after everything else. 🤷‍♀️

I had a hard time figuring out which cusp decision had the most impact, obviously Zadie getting pregnant started the whole cycle, but I think Zadie's baby and Len deciding to give his money to the dog's home had a huge effect. These two things impacted the book multiple times. Patricia wouldn't have left the door slightly ajar for Brown to get out if her daughter hadn't went into labor and Brown wouldn't be alive if it weren't for Len's donation. Like Nicole was also saying, Brown being hit by the car impacted Nick and Justice's life quite a bit. If it weren't for this, Nick wouldn't have played Romeo in the sideways play and realized that Justine was in love with him and not just making fun of him. I was also happy to see them together as a family. That was my favorite part. I felt so bad for Brown Houdini and was so glad that he was able to find himself a home.

I obviously felt the most for Brown. I have a soft soft for animals in trouble. I also felt a lot for Tansy and how her friends persuaded her that Simon was just using her when he really did love her. Thinking about it, that also had a huge impact in Nick and Justine finally coming together. Blessed Jones would not have written her song "Hidden Shallows" if she hadn't met Simon who was mourning his breakup with Tansy. That song also impacted Nick's decision with breaking up with Laura.

This is why I am having a hard time figuring out the most significant decision. Almost all the decisions had an effect in everyone's lives in one way or the other.

I absolutely feel that there was a message about destiny. No matter how much Justine screwed everything up, it was almost as if it was all supposed to happen to bring them closer together. Everything worked out in the end.

I know I am a week late the the party but I just finished the book last night. I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would. I love how all of the little stories come together in the end. This was a fun read and some good discussions!

I am so glad that you enjoyed it, this was actually my second time reading it and I enjoyed it more the second time around. There were a lot of people to try to remember, but after reading it twice it was a little easier for me and I also loved how all the stories came together!!
